Gershwin Theatre

Theater in Midtown

Originally known as the Uris Theatre and one of the newest and largest kids on the Broadway block (it seats nearly 2000!), this venue is notable for being the site of one of Broadway's biggest failures: Via Galactica (a musical by the same composer who did Hair), which closed after only seven shows and lost more than a million dollars. Singin' in the Rain, Oklahoma! and the current show Wicked are just a few of its many successes.

An extravagant prequel to The Wizard of Oz, the long-running, pop-rock musical Wicked gives the story's witches a turn to tell the tale. The musical is based on Gregory Maguire's 1995 novel.
