Mmmm, that gumbo. This quintessential Mid-City neighborhood joint does some of the best in town. The barbecue shrimp po’boy is to die for and the deep-fried garlic oysters are legendary. All that said, the real reason to come is the atmosphere: we’ve seen a former city judge and a stripper dining together here, which is as ‘Only in New Orleans’ an experience as you can get.

Liuzza’s is nearly impossible to squeeze into during Jazz Fest, which is held at the nearby Fair Grounds Race Course.
