St Joe's

in Uptown & Riverbend

New Orleanians have voted St Joe's the best in town several times. Patrons come to this dark-but-inviting place for the Japanese lantern decor, the well-used pool table, and the near-sacred jukebox. Mainly a 20s and 30s crowd, they are friendly and chatty, as are the staff.

The layout is also a draw – the narrow front leads past a series of faux Catholic shrines to a spacious backyard that feels like a cross between an Indonesian island and a Thai temple. And the jukebox? Well stocked with jazz, rock and blues.
