In a gorgeous setting on the eastern end of Deer Isle, Haystack offers summer courses for artists and craft-makers. The nonprofit school is famous in these parts and its two-week-long sessions working with clay, wood, glass, fiber and metals attract adult learners from across the globe. Visiting artists (musicians, writers, poets and occasionally a scientist) lecture and perform.
On-site accommodation is summer-camp style in private wooden cabins or dorms. Tuition is around $1100 for two weeks; room and board ranges from $470 (dorm) to $2400 (single).
