The island goes yellow in the last weekend of April with three million blooms, plus art shows, tours and exhibitions. A highlight is the antique car parade that makes its way to 'Sconset for a tailgate picnic.

At high noon on July 4th, island firefighters duke it out – the hook and ladder trucks versus the fire pumpers. You will get wet. Fireworks are staged at night; the best place to view them is Jetties Beach.
