The hundreds of restaurants are mostly high volume and low quality – think buffets longer than bowling alleys and 24-hour doughnut shops. For fresh seafood, locals go to nearby Murrells Inlet, the source of much of South Carolina's seafood. Restaurants here, like Wicked Tuna, are known for basement fish kitchens, where fishers pull right up to the docks to hand their catch to cooks.
