This self-guided 0.75-mile trail takes you through the 'walking dunes' ecosystem, so called because the fierce offshore winds actually move the sand 3.5 feet annually, pushing the dunes up to 80 feet high. You'll begin and end at Napeague Harbor, witnessing forests completely buried by the sands, as well as cranberry bogs and pepperbush outcroppings.

Take a left off Hwy 27 onto Napeague Harbor Road, just across from the Seaview Apartments, and go one mile to the end of the road. The trail signs begin there. The hike climbs up and down some dunes and is of moderate difficulty. Bring water and a hat.
