Welcome to Edgartown
Perched on a fine natural harbor, Edgartown has a rich maritime history and a patrician air. At the height of the whaling era it was home to more than 100 sea captains, whose fortunes built the grand old homes that still line the streets today. Unlike Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven, which have substantial ferries carting folks in and out, Edgartown only has a small ferry to the mainland. Of the three north-shore towns it's the one most geared to upmarket travelers.
All roads into Edgartown lead to Main St, which extends down to the harbor. Water St runs parallel to the harbor. Most restaurants and inns are on or near these two streets.
