The sign on the namesake drawbridge in downtown Breaux Bridge welcomes you to the ‘Crawfish Capital’, a title bestowed on the town by the state legislature in 1959. Since then, the town of 8000 has hosted its annual Crawfish Festival on the first complete weekend in May. Breaux Bridge is adjacent to Lafayette, to the point that it feels almost like an extension of that city. Lake Martin, about 5 miles to the south, is an easily accessible introduction to the beauty of the Louisiana wetlands.
