Welcome to Abita Springs & the North Shore
The north shore of Lake Pontchartrain is a collection of middle-to-upper-class New Orleans bedroom suburbs. Nearby, the bucolic village of Abita Springs was popular in the late 19th century for its curative waters. Today spring water still flows from a fountain in the center of the village, but more importantly for many residents, beer still bubbles from the Abita Brewery, the largest regional beer producer in Louisiana. The entirety of this region is separated from New Orleans by Lake Pontchartrain, which is spanned by the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway – at almost 24 miles long, the enormous bridge is a sight in and of itself.
