This modernist-minimalist neighborhood bistro nails the, uh, fundamentals, then elevates them. Lunch focuses on sandwiches and salads (our favorite: chicken torta) and delectable sides such as fingerling potatoes with parmesan, ketchup and aioli, or tom-yum-glazed Brussels sprouts. The kitchen changes completely at dinner, serving starters such as chili-lime cauliflower and mains including flatiron steak with roasted pepper relish and Jidori chicken asado.
The $14 power-lunch special is a great deal (sandwich or salad plus side and a cookie), while the 'happier hour' (5:30pm to 6:30pm) features a limited selection of discounted drinks and dishes.
It's a couple blocks south of Westwood Village and the Hammer Museum.
