Hip-hop meets Taiwan in this counter-service shop in Chinatown. Chef Eddie Huang, who became famous for his memoir Fresh off the Boat (basis of the TV series by the same name), transforms the traditional bao steamed bun into sandwiches that hipsters gobble up. Take the Chairman Bao: pork belly with house relish, crushed peanuts, Taiwanese red sugar and cilantro.
There are two fried chicken bao (regular and spicy), plus fried fish and tofu bao, all with condiments that zing. Wash it down with fusion drinks such as AiYu jelly lemonade.
