A Hillhurst breakfast favorite, this sunny cafe spills onto a multilevel, streetside brick patio. It’s housed in a restored 1897 Spanish-style duplex, with a reliable menu of Mexican- and Euro-influenced dishes such as crab cake Benedict, breakfast quesadillas and crepes stuffed with espresso-spiked cream. There's a full bar serving tasty cocktails to boot.
Before leaving, check out the small vintage chess table in the back room. For years, customers have slipped notes, letters and revealing observations in its drawers – some witty, some dark and some addressed to 'Dear Chess Table'. One customer even slipped a ring in there and proposed to his girlfriend.
