The NoHo, aka North Hollywood, arts district is sprinkled with theaters and venues offering plays and stand-up comedy. The El Portal is one of the biggest, and ACME Comedy Theatre, an improv troupe, has a branch here, too.

Sometimes Smaller is Better

Most of the theaters in the North Hollywood Arts District are small, 'equity waiver' theaters of 99 seats or fewer. This size allows the actors to try out new material free from the requirements of the Actors Equity union. So when you see a show here, you could be helping the next big star get his or her big break!
