Breathtaking city views, a curvaceous pool guarded by a 17th-century pagoda, and roomy digs with balcony and kitchen are among the assets at this older but well-kept hillside hotel. A partial refurbishment has seen rates skyrocket, making the place less value these days. That said, we love the tranquility and proximity to central Hollywood. Check in at the adjacent Magic Castle Hotel.
