Washington State Ferries runs the fleet of car ferries from Anacortes, the main port on the mainland, to Lopez Island; ferries then continue to the principal islands of Shaw, Orcas and San Juan Island. From April to December, two ferries a day continue to Sidney, near Victoria on Vancouver Island, and then make the return journey.
Foot passengers pay $13.25 to Lopez from Anacortes and then it's free going back or to any other island west. Car-and-driver fares range from $44.80 (from Anacortes) to $27.90 (to San Juan Island) and you must pay for each leg westbound, although the return eastbound journey is free. Bikes are an extra $5 on top of the foot-passenger fare.
