Small motels and mini-resorts line Rte 9 through to Bolton Landing. The Department of Conservation (www.dec.ny.gov) manages 387 waterfront camping sites on 44 islands in Lake George. Reservations are required; access is by boat only. If going by canoe, go on weekdays and focus on sites in the southern end of the Narrows area, near Bolton Landing. Tent sites cost $28. Warrensburg and Glens Falls offer less rugged B&B options.
