Public buses run between Kailua-Kona and Captain Cook in South Kona (one to 1¾ hours) up to 10 times daily except Sunday; one or two also stop at the airport. Buses connect Kailua-Kona with Hilo (three hours) via Waimea (1¼ to 1¾ hours) three times daily except Sunday; two go via South Kohala's resorts.
Buses on the long-distance Pahala–South Kohala route (four hours) make stops in Kailua-Kona, South Kona, Kaʻu and sometimes at Kona's airport and in Keauhou.
