This 5-mile loop hike (two to three hours) mixes an easy forest-valley walk with a moderate ridge climb for sweeping views of Waimea Bay. After spying the beauty of the bay from viewpoints atop this trail, it’s easy to see why Hawaiian royalty considered it sacred. The trail is open to the public only on weekends and state and national holidays.
To get here, travel 2.5 miles up Pupukea Rd from the Foodland supermarket. Park roadside before the Boy Scout Camp and follow the signage to the trailhead.
