One of the highlights of a trip to the Smokies is heading out on a rafting adventure along the Pigeon River. This reputable outfitter runs two different trips: a 1½-hour, 5.5-mile-long white-water adventure along the Upper Pigeon River (minimum age, eight), and a more easygoing two-hour paddle along the Lower Pigeon (ages three and up). Trips generally run Tuesday to Thursday and Saturday.
The locally owned operation has a lovely setting along the river, and offers other activities apart from rafting. Take the bouncy, 150ft suspension bridge over to the 10-acre island to reach the rock-climbing wall, ziplines and ropes course. There are also picnic tables, grills and a playground. A food truck is usually parked near the ticket booth.
