This flat, peaceful trail follows along the banks of the pretty Oconaluftee River. Go around dawn or dusk and you may see elk grazing in the fields. The 3-mile, round-trip walk begins just outside the Oconaluftee Visitor Center. You can check out the historic buildings of the Mountain Farm Museum before setting off.

This is one of only two trails in the park that allows dogs, as long as they're on a leash (the other dog-friendly path is the Gatlinburg Trail). You can also ride a bike along the trail.
