Entering these caves feels like descending into one of Dante’s layers of hell, at least in terms of temperature. It’s hot – damn hot: 110°F (43°C) to be exact. Mineral-rich spring waters run along the cave floors at a temperature of 125°F (52°C), filling the interior with hot steam.

First developed by the Ute hundreds of years earlier for therapeutic purposes, the natural caves have been a commercial facility since the 1880s, and though they’ve been widened and slightly remodeled in the years since, they still have a primeval feel. Additional spa treatments are available.
