Introduction

The most attractive buildings in the seat of Sussex County are arranged around Georgetown Circle, an atypical round town green (in these parts, town centers are usually square), anchored by a courthouse on its northern side. On Return Day, two days after the November election every other year, the town crier stands in The Circle and announces the results. Much revelry – from a parade to the Mayors' Hatchet Toss – ensues. All concludes peacefully with a ceremonial Burying of the Hatchet.
