A trail runs straight out of town, taking you right up to the beginning of the Tenmile Range. You can make this as short or long as you like, but either way get ready to sweat. It's 1.5 miles up to the ridge, where the trail forks; head right (north) to Mt Royal (10,052ft) for the easy summit.

Otherwise, opt for the tougher workout and turn left (south) to continue up the ridge to Peak One (12,805ft), which is 3.7 miles from the trailhead located at the west end of 2nd Ave. Tenmile Peak (12,933ft) is another 0.6 miles from here, but be prepared for some continuous class 3 scrambling along the ridge.
