Shaw House, an emblematic ‘butterfat palace,’ was the first permanent structure in Ferndale, completed by founding father Seth Shaw in 1866. Today, it’s California’s oldest B&B, set back on extensive grounds. Original details remain, including painted wooden ceilings. Most of the rooms have private entrances, and three have private balconies overlooking the large garden with its magnificent shady trees and suitably situated benches.
Set in Ferndale, Shaw House Inn features a garden and a terrace. All rooms boast a flat-screen TV with cable channels and a private bathroom. The rooms come with a balcony with garden views. At the bed and breakfast, all rooms are fitted with a wardrobe. Free WiFi is accessible to all guests, while certain rooms come with a Blu-ray player. The units will provide guests with a microwave. A continental breakfast is available every morning at the property. Eureka is 26 km from Shaw House Inn. The nearest airport is Arcata-Eureka Airport, 46 km from the property.
