This stunning side trip into the heart of the Chugach Mountains follows the Eagle River for 13 miles. The road is paved and winding, and at Mile 7.4 there is a put-in for rafts to float the Class I and II section of the river. The road ends at the Eagle River Nature Center.

The log-cabin center offers wildlife displays, telescopes for finding Dall sheep, guided hikes on most Saturdays and Sundays, and heaps of programs for kids.
