Getting There & Away
Detroit Metro Airport, a Delta Airlines hub, is about 20 miles southwest of Detroit.Transportation options to the city are few. Taxis cost $60 or so. The shared shuttle van Skoot (313-230-2331; www.rideskoot.com) costs $20. The 125 SMART bus ($2.50) is inconvenient, unreliable and takes 1½ hours to get downtown.
Greyhound runs to various cities in Michigan and beyond. Megabus (www.megabus.com/us) runs to/from Chicago (5½ hours) daily; departures are from downtown and Wayne State University. Check the website for exact locations.
Amtrak (www.amtrak.com) trains go three times daily to Chicago (5½ hours) from Detroit Station. You can also head east – to New York (16½ hours) or destinations en route – but you'll first be bused to Toledo.
