Free, ranger-led canoe tours of Cedar Creek typically set out a few times a week between April and June, and September and November, but are heavily dependent on weather and flood conditions. These four-hour excursions are an excellent way to learn about Congaree National Park's history and wildlife, and the 12 spaces often book up fast.
Dates for each month's tours can be found on the park's online event calendar (www.nps.gov/cong/planyourvisit/calendar.htm). Reservations must be made online at www.recreation.gov.
The tour starts from South Cedar Creek Canoe Landing. From the park entrance, turn right on Old Bluff Rd, then right on South Cedar Creek Rd and follow it to the landing.
