Prefer wheels to white water? Then check out the mountain-and-river scenery of southeastern Tennessee on this exhilarating 26-mile drive, the first-ever byway in a national forest. Along the way there are there are swimming areas, rocky bluffs and woodsy trails leading to waterfalls. Forest Road 77 passes several scenic viewpoints with bird's-eye views of the river and the Tennessee Valley.
The byway stretches from the western edge of the national forest east along Hwy 64 to Ducktown, with a 7-mile scenic spur up Forest Road 77/Oswald Dome Rd to Chilhowee Recreation Area and the trail to Benton Falls.
