If you like your hikes short and easy with a scenic payoff at the end, then the Benton Falls trail is for you. This 3-mile out-and-back hike, which is part of the Chilhowee Trail System, follows a blue-blazed path through the woods then ends with a steep but short drop to the base of the 65ft-tall falls.
Benton Falls was the site of the last – and only – fatal bear attack in the forest, in 2006, when a black bear attacked a family of three near the base of the falls and killed a six-year-old girl. The bear was euthanized and there have been no incidents since then, but stay aware.
Leashed pets permitted.
