If you like your hikes short and easy with a scenic payoff at the end, then the Benton Falls trail is for you. This 3-mile out-and-back hike, which is part of the Chilhowee Trail System, follows a blue-blazed path through the woods and ends with a steep but short drop to the base of the 65ft-high falls.
Benton Falls is the site of the only fatal bear attack in the forest: in 2006 a black bear attacked a family of three near the base of the falls and killed a six-year-old girl. The bear was euthanized and there have been no incidents since, but stay aware.
Leashed pets are permitted.
