Built in 1889, this photogenic hilltop church in Little Cataloochee can only be reached on foot or horseback via the Little Cataloochee Trail, which stretches from Big Cataloochee to Old NC 284. The 4-mile, round-trip hike to the church from Old NC 284 passes the 1864 Hannah Cabin and the once-bustling community of Ola – now only whispers of its existence remain.
Inside the church you'll find a pot-bellied stove and white wooden pews. There's a graveyard at the base of the hill.
If hiking to the church from Big Cataloochee Valley, you'll follow the Pretty Hollow Gap Trail to the Little Cataloochee Trail. If you backtrack to Big Cataloochee after reaching the church, it's about 8 miles round trip. To hike the entire Little Cataloochee Trail from Big Cataloochee Valley to Old NC 284 (just over 6 miles one way), consider leaving a car at the trailhead on Old NC 284 so you can shuttle back to your starting point instead of backtracking.
