Hugging the northeastern edge of the Mojave National Preserve, this isolated Old West outpost started out in 1900 as a gold-miners' camp and soon after began seeing the railroad pass through en route from Salt Lake City to Los Angeles. Practically a ghost town today (albeit with its own solar plant!), it was for sale at $5 million at the time of writing.
