St Anthony is everybody's favorite saint, so it's no surprise that his feast day in late August is among the biggest festivals in the North End. The streets fill with local residents listening to music, playing games and – of course – eating.
The highlight of every festival is the saint’s parade, which features local marching bands and social clubs and the star participant, a statue of the patron saint. The life-size likeness is hoisted onto a wooden platform and carried through the streets, while residents cheer and toss confetti. Banners stream behind the statue so that believers can pin on their dollar bills, thus earning the protection of the saint’s watchful eye.
