Brewer Fountain

Fountain in Beacon Hill & Boston Common

This bronze beauty dates to 1868, when it was gifted to the city of Boston by wealthy merchant Gardner Brewer. The lovely fountain features four aquatic deities from antiquity: the Roman god of water, Neptune; the Greek sea goddess, Amphitrite; and the spirit Acis and sea nymph Galatea, both from Ovid’s Metamorphoses. The design won a gold medal at the 1855 World’s Fair.
