Particularly stunning in autumn when the aspens shimmer gold, the Cathedral Lake hiking trail is one of the most popular in Aspen – though with 2000ft of elevation gain over 3 miles, it's definitely no walk in the park.

To get here, drive half a mile west of town on Hwy 82 to the roundabout and follow Castle Creek Rd south for 12.2 miles. The trailhead is located not far beyond the Ashcroft ghost town.
