Welcome to South Alabama
South Alabama marks a long, low flatland that connects the wet forests of the Gulf Coast to the ridges and mountains of North Alabama. Much of this area is categorized as the 'Black Belt,' a nickname that originally referred to the area's dark, rich topsoil, and later alluded to the largely African American population that fueled much of the Civil Rights movement. Today, the draw of this region is a mix of factors: cultural and historical trails that follow the course of Civil Rights, and a few wild sights that can't be found elsewhere in America.
