The 1-hour educational tour begins at the entrance of the farm store of the main building, led by the ranches owner and care taker Charlie. Experience our 1-hour walking tour of a real live working cattle ranch. Charlie enjoys introducing his ranch and sharing his wealth of knowledge about sustainable, regenerative management of productive pastures, genetics, animal husbandry, environmental and conservation practices. Walnut Hollow Ranch was bestowed the 2014 Regional WNC Conservation Farm Family of the Year award as the ranch manages the pastures with a rotational grazing system, so keep your eyes out for the herd. The educational tour offers the view of the breeding and handling building and will demonstrate how the cows are artificially bred and explain why certain genetics are chosen. The health and growth of the cattle are examined in a safe, humane handling system. There are many photo opportunities, especially seeing the kids with the tractors and equipment around the farm. The group will see different types of feed, material and hay sheds so come experience the sights and smells of the farm while discussing the cattle nutrient requirements and learn what it takes to run a real working cattle ranch.
