Drinking & Nightlife

Neighborhood bars abound throughout the country, with most opening from early evening into the wee hours. The country also has a burgeoning wine industry and a growing number of microbreweries. Local specialties include grappamiel (honey-infused pomace brandy), clericó (wine mixed with fruit juice) and medio y medio (half dry and half sparkling wine). Uruguay’s clubs, which open from midnight till dawn, are heavily concentrated in Montevideo and Punta del Este.
