Welcome to Chuy & Around
The Uruguayan border town of Chuy is a dusty and rather forlorn-looking place, which – aside from the subtle change from Spanish to Portuguese on local storefronts – is barely distinguishable from its Brazilian counterpart (Chuí),
Avenida Artigas is the main drag into town from Ruta 9. Crossing north into Brazil, it becomes Avenida Argentina; for a full list of street name changes, see the maps posted throughout town. Chuy’s main square is one block south of the border. Running east-west along the border itself is the town’s four-lane commercial thoroughfare, called Avenida Brasil on the Uruguayan side, Avenida Uruguaí on the Brazilian side.
