Diving the UAE's East Coast

The UAE's eastern coast offers the best diving in the UAE, mainly reefs and a few wrecks, with many sites close to shore. If you're lucky, you'll encounter green sea turtles and black-tip reef sharks among large schools of fish. The best time to go is in the morning, as the tide may cloud the water around midday, and afternoon winds may make it choppy. Watch out for jellyfish.

Most resorts along here have a PADI-accredited dive centre that hires snorkelling gear, does diving certification and organises diving and snorkelling trips, including to the Musandam Peninsula in Oman. Rates vary slightly, but expect to pay from Dhs400 for a two-dive trip including full equipment. Hiring snorkelling gear costs around Dhs100 per day. More experienced divers should check out Extreme Water Sports, about 1km north of Badiyah's mosque.
