On Al Muteena, one of Dubai’s best, if lesser-known, walking streets, Al Baghdadi is one of several restaurants specialising in the national Iraqi dish called masgouf, a local carp seasoned with salt, tamarind and turmeric and spit-roasted in a round fire pit. This takes about 30 to 45 minutes, giving you ample time to nibble on the mezze.

It's near the Sheraton Deira Hotel.
