Like a proper port city, Odesa has a greater number of pick-pockets and other shady characters than your average Ukrainian city. That's a reason to be more vigilant, but certainly not paranoid. In the past, Odesa police were known for targeting foreigners for impromptu passport checks with the view to extorting bribes. This has hopefully largely disappeared now, but carrying at least a phoytocopy of your passport is still sensible.
A coworking space for freelancers, Impact Hub is a pleasant environment where you can browse the internet (using your own gadget) and enjoy free coffee. You pay for the time spent there – 50uah for three hours.
