Air

Lviv's Danylo Halytsky International Airport lies 7km west of the city centre. UIA operates flights to Boryspil airport in Kyiv (one hour, two daily). Motor Sich has a daily flight to Kyiv, too.

Lviv attracts a good number of international fllghts. There are currently services to/from Vienna, Munich, Warsaw, Poznań, Wrocław, Minsk, Baku, Tel Aviv, Bologna and Istanbul. Ryanair arrived in late 2018, with services to London, Dusseldorf and Warsaw.

The best central place to buy plane tickets is Aviakasy.

Bus

The extremely inconveniently located main bus station is a whopping 7km south of the city centre. To reach the centre take trolleybus 5 (3uah, 20 minutes).

Confusing bus station No. 8, in front of the main train station, is the place to pick up a quick marshrutka (fixed-route minibus) if you miss your train or there are no tickets; it also handles a few services to western and southern destinations and is the departure point for the Shehyni border marshrutka.

Bus station No. 2 is 3km north of the city centre (take bus 1A from pr Svobody) but is only good for services to Zhovkva (14uah, 35 minutes, several hourly), Pochayiv (102uah, 3½ hours, five daily), Olesko (42uah, 1½ hours, at least hourly) and Kremenets (115uah, 3½ hours, five daily).

From the main bus station, buses serve most major cities, including the following.

There are many international coach services from the main bus station. The selection of destinations by and large reflects the number of Ukrainian gastarbeiter (guest or foreign workers) a country has, hence the numerous connections to the Czech Republic, Italy, Spain and Germany. Buy tickets at the International Bus Ticket Office inside the main bus station.

Train

Lviv's main train station is 2km west of the city centre, connected to town by trams 1, 9 and 10 (3uah, 30 minutes).

The quickest way to Kyiv is on the Intercity express trains (289uah, five to six hours). There are also at least 10 regular trains per day, some of them overnight services (170 to 250uah, six to 13 hours).

Slow daily international trains serve Bratislava, Budapest, Prague and a handful of destinations in Poland. The new cross-border Intercity service to Przemyśl leaves at 11.17am and takes two hours 20 minutes to reach its destination. It leaves Przemyśl at 3.42pm. There's no change of wheels at the border. A through service to Kraków is planned.

The most painless way to acquire a train ticket is to use the Soviet-era but centrally located Train Ticket Office.
