Welcome to Gulu
Unless you’re here volunteering or en route to Kidepo Valley National Park, there’s no real reason to visit Gulu. However, it's quite a pleasant stop, with friendly locals, a relaxed feel and nice spots to hang out. The largest town in northern Uganda, it was one of the hardest hit during the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) conflict. It’s a town in transition and, in a sure sign of optimism, restaurants are busy and people are arriving from elsewhere in the country hoping to cash in on the coming boom. And there’s no shortage of wazungus (foreigners) about, with so many NGOs in town.
