I need to get to Ashgabat from Khiva so have booked a private car to take me from the border crossing near Khiva to Ashgabat (pick up early on the 29th June, arriving in Ashgabat evening of 30th June).
The route taken will stop at Konye Urgench and overnight at Darvaza. I am looking for someone to share this cost with and am happy to discuss how much you can pay.
Please email me on firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested.
Is independent travel in Turkmenistan any possible? I've just been told by an agency that in order to issue a loi they must have an itinerary and some of their representatives will have to pick me up and drop me off at border posts and I am not allowed to go around the country without a tour....is it another north korea?
Is it true? Any experiences or advices about it?
I understand that in order to get a loi I have to buy a tour package with some agency but my idea was to buy a day tour…
I have applied twice now for my Turkmenistan visa and have been rejected both times. I tried with two different companies. I have also tried using two different passports. Both were rejected. I'm a 23-year-old solo female traveller and don't know what might have tilted the scale towards rejection, but alas here I am.
I am now looking for any company or contact who might be able to help me have a better chance of being approved. At this point, I am willing to pay more if necessary, but I…
Dear all, I am travelling to Turkmenistan in August and am arranging a tour with STANtours. I am looking for travel buddies to share costs as it is pretty expensive. I am spending 9 or 10 days between the 13rd and 21st and want to visit Ashgabad, Geok Tepe, Darvaza, Mary and Konye Urgench. I have some flexibily on dates though.
Hello! I've just finished writing up a detailed trip report for Turkmenistan. I flew into Ashgabat with a five day transit visa, and headed overland to the crater with public transport. We hiked to the crater and slept there overnight - truly a man made disaster turned world wonder! We then headed north to Konye-Urgench and crossed over the border to Uzbekistan via Nukus. Information on Turkmenistan is really hard to come by - even on the internet - so hopefully someone will find it useful!…
On a transit visa in September:
Fly into Ashgabat > Darvaza > Konye-Urgench > Border crossing to Nukus
Or am I going to need a tourist visa? If so I'm struggling to find a company that does this route.
I have a question if anybody has an experience of applying for transit visa to Turkmenistan with: entry point Ashchabad airport, exit point TM/Iran border? We would like to fly in to Ashchabad via Minsk and then leave this country using the closest border with Iran. I am aware that first of all we need to have Iranian visa issued.
I asked in several agencies if they can do it, but the probability of rejection is quite high.
Thank you in advance for any reply.
We have been told by a Turkmenistan travel agency that they have started apply for letter of invitation for us 4 weeks ago. But they are still waiting for government to approve our LOI. Can anyone tell me if this is normal?
This is what a tour company suggested for a 10-day Tour.
I have no maximum number of days to visit, except for not wanting to break the bank.
What do you recommend I add to this itinerary?
Or remove/replace with?
Is there a city, town, National Park you recommend I stay longer in?
Keep in mind, I do enjoy hiking and prefer nature over cities.
