Welcome to Ünye
This seaside town, 90km east of Samsun, has one of Anatolia's longest settlement histories. There is evidence the Hittites and even Stone Age people were here, and Ünye was an important junction between the Silk Road and the coastal highway during the Ottoman period. Smaller and more conservative than Samsun and as pretty as Ordu, with some lovely Ottoman and Greek architecture, Ünye is worth a stop for its coastal promenade and labyrinth of well-kept winding streets and lanes. These fan out from the main square (Cumhuriyet Meydanı) across the coastal road from the seafront.
