Since joining Thorntree I have been delighted to read so many wonderful trip reviews. These are most often full of the small details so important and useful to independent travellers. How sad then that in time these slip down the forum pages and get lost or forgotten about. All that help…all that typing! So I have trawled through the last 12 months and collated all the trip reviews and, after equal amounts of bullying and flattery,Zabba(mmwwahh!)has agreed to make this a sticky,so it will now be at…
This July I plan to cross from Van into Iran (to Tabriz). As the most convenient / nearby border crossing is the Kapikoy-Razi border crossing, I plan on using that one. However, I find that information on the border crossing is thin and often contradictory. Thus I have 2 questions:
Does the direct bus from Van to Tabriz still operate? I found a post on this forum (1 year ago) with detailed information about transport from Van to Tabriz, including the bus journey. However, my…
I am going to have 5 hours 50 minutes between two planes (14:45 – 20:35) in the S. Gokcen Istanbul airport. I am an overweight and 70 year-old Any. Is there anything worth doing near the airport? The coast seems to be some 3 Km away. Any other ideas, please.
I am driving from Bulgaria into Turkey in july and I have heard mixed reports about the borders crossings! I know the Kapikule is busier but open 24 hours a day. We are considering the detour to the Malko Tarnovo crossing as I have heard that the wait is significantly shorter but can’t find opening times for this Border, does anyone know what they are please?
Also is it worth the detour or should we just stick to Kapikule
Looked in the forum for this, but the info seems a bit old. We are in Istanbul sept/oct over a 3 week period and of course need to buy sims. I looked at various services and prices, but haven't found any comments about coverage. Probably need more data than usual for maps and such; I have visited several times before but of course there is still stuff i haven't seen. So THIS time will need to get some serious sight seeing in.
So wondering if anyone has any recommendations. Allday looks cheap…
I am travelling soon to Uganda from Turkey, and looking for a place in Istanbul to buy malaria-tablets (preferably Malarone). Who knows a good pharmacist or hospital?
This is a draft itinerary, would appreciate suggestions. I have about 3 weeks so plenty of time.
Rental car from Izmir to Selçuk. Visit Ephesus, the ruins of Aphrodisias and a few other ruins there. Stay in Selçuk four days. Then head to Pamukkale and Hierapolis. Again a few days.
Then head east towards Cappadocia. I haven't looked into this region yet to see how long I could spend here. But it looks fascinating. Then towards Konya, with a stop at Sultan Han caravanserai.
From Konya I could…
We are planning to go to Yenice Forest for a few days for hiking, but I do not want to take the tent with me. Are there any affordable accommodation options in Yenice and around?
We are going first week of July, will we be able to find something on arrival or shall I try to book something on advance?
Thanks a lot!
Me and my wifey are planning to visit Turkey in February, but we are of two minds if it is the best time to visit.

Hello out there - looking for good advice/recommendations for Eastern Turkey tours. So far, only contenders are Eastern Turkey Tours (Alkan) that has a trip from Trabazon to San Liurfa/Gobekli Tepe, Van, and Mt. Nemrut and another agency, Travel the Unknown. I am leaning toward Alkan and would appreciate any feedback or additional info you can give me about these companies or others. They both have tours for this fall. Thanks, GR
