Since joining Thorntree I have been delighted to read so many wonderful trip reviews. These are most often full of the small details so important and useful to independent travellers. How sad then that in time these slip down the forum pages and get lost or forgotten about. All that help…all that typing! So I have trawled through the last 12 months and collated all the trip reviews and, after equal amounts of bullying and flattery,Zabba(mmwwahh!)has agreed to make this a sticky,so it will now be at…

Greetings all,

Next week I will be travelling to Istanbul for 10 days. As this is my first solo trip, I'm a bit nervous... but also very excited at the same time.

I got myself a pretty great deal on Airbnb for an apartment in Takim square, very close to the Metro and the sights. I know what I want to do in Istanbul, but I'm also very interested in visiting Cappadocia and Ephesus, and maybe head up to Sofia if there's time.

Given that I have 10 days, would a day trip to Cappadocia and Ephesus…

Hi
I plan to travel to Turkey between 10th and 25th June. Istanbul, Cappadocia, Pamukkale are places I certainly wish to cover. Since I have spent considerable time on various beaches in Thailand and India, I am not sure about including a beach town (Bodrum or Antalaya) in my Turkey itinerary. Is a beach town stay in Turkey worth the time?
Please assist with the order in which I should cover the various cities along with the most convenient and cost-effective modes of transport.

Thanks

Greetings!

I'll be in Instanbul from 13 june to 19 june, i would like to attend the seker bayrami at Blue Mosque or at the Suleymaniye Mosque.
First of all, would be that possible? (i mean, for non-resident)
I'm just with my mother, someone else may follow - eventually, it is possible for non muslim to take part and see?

Do you have some general advice for me for this/these days? Dunno, like something special that will take place?

Thanks in advance

Hi all,
Quick question: We will be spending 4 days in and around Kaş (Kaputas, Ucagiz, Kekova etc.) in mid-June. We are considering renting a car from Dalaman Airport for the whole trip but can't figure out really if we need it. Is car really necessary in that region? Is it easy to go to Kaputaş and Kekova from Kas by public transport? Would we miss out on anything without car? Would parking be a problem in central Kas?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Deniz

Been traveling most of my life but can't remember anyone talking about motorcycling through Turkey.
Rode Mersin to Istanbul in 1972 but that's the ëasy", Westernized part of the country. How about the Eastern part?
Anybody have any experience or thoughts?

We have just completed 4 leisurely weeks in wonderful Turkey, back/flash packing around. Did a somewhat tourist route, Istanbul, Gallipolli ( Crowded House Tours picked us up from Istanbul, lunch, then tour of battlefields, then dropped us at ferry for onward travel, our one and only tour, but well worth it), Bergama, Selcuk (Ephesus), Pamukkale, Antalya, Konya (Whirling Dervishes), Goreme (Cappadocia), Ankara, Safranbolu, and back to Istanbul.
We used the amazing, efficient, helpful…

I am going to do a 10 day trip to Turkey. I want to spend a good amount of time in Istanbul to see the main attractions then I want to go to another city to finish off my trip. I don't feel like catching more planes so I want to visit a place that is a decent driving distance from Istanbul like 3 hours max. This destination should mostly be for couples relaxation, but I definitely wouldn't mind a fun activity or two. What would be your top pick and how would you split the days spent between the…
