Getting There & Away
The easiest option for Ani is a round-trip taxi (car or minibus) trip from Kars organised by the knowledgeable, English-speaking driver-guide Celil Ersözoğlu. The trip includes about three hours' waiting time and a rundown on Ani's history en route. The drive is 50 minutes each way. Celil can group travellers together to make up numbers. He also offers optional guiding services: ₺200 for either the main plateau site or the 'underground city'; ₺350 for both (five to six hours).
A round-trip taxi from Kars with a Turkish-speaking driver typically costs around ₺120 with about two hours at the site. Hotels can help organise this. For more time you'll probably have to pay more.
