Welcome to Maloula
About 8km west of Tabarka, practically on the border with Algeria, is the small village of Maloula. Its coastline, nestled at the bottom of lush forested slopes, is fabulous. Only one cove is accessible from the main village, down a snaking sealed road. The beach is mostly pebbly and rocky – watch out for sea urchins as you wade into the water. Either follow local kids, who seem to know the water like the backs of their hands, or take them up on their offer to row you out past the rocks for a couple of dinar. Once you’ve mastered the urchins, you can swim your way round the cove.
